Huskies are Champions!

This video is like a highlight reel for Danielle Lawrie when her team (Washington Huskies) won the championship. Danielle Lawrie is not just an amazing pitcher, but an amazing hitter too. Any team would be honoured to have her on their team. This year however, Washington got knocked out of the NCCA Championship, which was a big upset because they lost to Arizona. Regardless, I still think Danielle Lawrie is still one of the top pitchers out there! And I can only wish to make as many accomplishments as her!

Yet Another Rain Out...

Last weekend, June 5th and 6th, my team the Richmond Islanders headed down to the states for a very competitive tournament. This was a qualifying tournament, which meant the top teams would play in the USA Nationals. One year my team actually qualified, and we could have gone down to Florida, but we didn't. This weekend we were going to play the top teams in Washington and many of the girls already had scholarships for a university. Our whole team was very eager to play and couldn't wait to get started. On the first day, the sun was out and it was VERY hot! It also just happened that we were to be playing the top 3 teams from Washington. The first team we played we lost 2-1, but we should have won that game. Our bats weren't on and we made a few errors. That team was a very good team, especially at batting. Our second game, we played the Lady Sharks, we have played this team before and we knew what to expect from them. unfortunately we lost 2-3, once again because out bats weren't working! At this point we were getting frustrated of the fact that no one was hitting, and that really affected us in the next game. Our next game we were play Lake Breeze and they were nothing special, not a team I thought would have came 3rd in Washington. Once again it took us a long time to get our bats going, but their bats were working! They were a great hitting team, and found it very easy to hit off of our 3d pitcher. They had a fair lead, so my coach put me in. They didn't get a hit off of me- thankfully. Now it was our last bats and we were down by one with the tieing run on third, but we couldn't get that run in. We have lost all our games by one run! We new that on Sunday, if we wanted to start winning, that our bats needed to come alive. so we headed back to the hotel- which was right behind a very noisy casino! My mother found it very difficult to sleep that night, but I slept like a baby. The next day everyone was burnt from the sun! Ironically thought, even though we had these great tans, the rain came! We headed down to the field to see that they were starting to flood- not looking good. All the coaches got together and they decided because of the poor conditions, the tournament was canceled! This was our second tournament that it has been rained out, and we have only been down to the states twice! It seems as if our team brings the rain from home to these places! In 2 weeks we are heading back down to Portland for a scouting tournament! All I have to say is..the rain better not come! This tournament could mean a scholarship for me and my teammates and if it were to rain and the tournament got canceled, I think our coach will give up on going down to the states to play some ball.

Brave News Reporters

In this video brave Seattle News Repoters decide they want to take on one of the best pitchers to date- Danielle Lawrie. This video is highly entertaining as many of the News Reporters can't touch Lawrie's pitch, but when they do make any kind of contact, it's like they have accomplished the impossible. Danielle is an amazing pitcher, and is a great inspiration for every young pitcher out there. This video shows just how hard it is to make contact with the ball, especially when there is great movement on it. Hope you enojy!

Pro vs Joe- Danielle Lawrie

Jim Dever (a news reporter), did the insane and decided he wanted to hit against one of the top pitchers in the world- Danielle Lawrie. Danielle Lawrie is currently playing for Washington Huskies which is a University. Last season, the Huskies won the NCAA title, meaning they are currently the number one team. Lawire also plays for Team Canada and is their starting pitcher! For Jim Dever to try to hit one of her pitches, he has to be very brave or very dumb. Even baseball pros find it very difficult to connect with a softball! This video is very entertaining to watch as a softball player, but I hope you will find Jim just as funny as I do! Enjoy!

Home

Other then softball, I love music as well! Yesterday I heard this song playing while in class. I instantly fell in love with it. It is such an upbeat song with really cute lyrics. This song is about a couples love for each other. They talk about how their each others best friends and how home is where ever the other is. This song portrays a real fairytale relationship. Don't we all wish we could have a relationship described in this song? This song has a great beat and there is a high possibility it will get suck in your head- as it did mine! I hope you enjoy this song as much as I did!

3rd in Canada!

Last summer of 2009, my team Richmond Islanders qualified to attend the Softball Nationals. The Nationals were held in Oakville, Ontario. The first two days, all we did was tour around and visit the famous Niagra Falls. I have been to Ontario before, but I never get tired at looking at the beautiful waterfalls. The team decided to go into a haunted house as well, and I was forced to lead the way! Fortunately, the girls in the back got all the people jumping out at them-karma! After having a couple of days to get use the the time change, it was time to get serious. We were playing the best teams in Canada and we knew we had to step up our 'A' game. No one would have thought that the Richmond Islanders would have qualified for Nationals- as we had a rough year at the start. But we didn't let that get to our heads. We played really tough teams, but managed to have a record of 3-1 in the round robin, which put us in a good standing for the semi-finals. In order to be quaranteed a medal, we had to beat Ontario 1, the team favoured to win. The score remained 0-0 for a very long time, and I was pitching! I was so nervous, my knees were shaking on the mound. Luckily, my team was able to get some runs in and we were now ahead, but the other team had last bats! I struck out the first two batters, but the third batter got on base from an error. Now there is a runner on first with the best hitter coming up to bat. Now I could really feel the butterflies. We needed one more out and after that the worst we could do was 3rd! I did eventually strike the girl out and at that moment we were guarenteed a medal at Nationals! Our team was estatic, like we have won the whole tournament! After that game we went back to the hotel for some sleep and the next day we lost to Ontario 2, 3-2, therefore we didn't qualify to the finals. Even though we didn't make it to the finals, our team was very satisfied with the end result. Richmond Islanders are now ranked 3rd in Canada! Our teams great effort and dedication was why we got so far, and I hope we can do the same thing this season!

Lee Wins!

Lets take a break from softball! Here is the clip from American Idol Finale 2010! Ever since the first time I saw Lee Dewyze perform he has been my favourite. His voice is so rustic and I can listen to him sing all day long! I was very enthused when I heard he had won! Crysal Bowersox was always my second favourite too though, and I still believe she'll go far in the music business! I was very happy when they both made it to the finals because they both have amazing voices! It is also disappointing that Simon (the judge) is planning to leave American Idol. His opinion always matter the most, but now that he is leaving the show wont be the same. That said, I can't wait to see his new tv series. Well enjoy the clip and I hope you like Lee as much as I do ;)

A Rainy Start

Last weekend, I went down to Auburn, Washington, for a softball tournament. The tournament only had two states team in it and the rest were actually all BC teams that we could have played at home. On the three hour drive there, my mother and friend and I saw that the weather wasn't going to be very nice this weekend and had a hunch it might even be canceled. On Saturday morning everyone woke up to rain, but we didn't get a call that would notify that the games were canceled or delayed, so we headed down to the fields. When we got there, there was no one in sight! When my coach pulled in the parking lot, he told us that the tournament director just called saying out 12:00 game is now moved to 5:00. We were pretty upset that the tournament director didn't bother telling us till we got to the fields. Not only was our games pushed back, but we now had to play at very grungy fields. So when 3:45 came, we were warming up. The rain was just pouring down, but everyone continued to play. A little confused as to why the games were going on, my friends mother asked when to the umps call the game. His reply? When a pitcher slips on the mound. Finally, it was game time! The team we were suppose to play, dropped out at the last second, therefore we had to play a U16 team, that wasn't very good. We mercied them fairly easily (meaning that we scored over eight runs). After that game we were to play our rivals Surrey Storm- from Canada. It was my turn to pitch and I couldn't wait to pitch against this team. The score remained 0-0 for a very long time, neither teams were getting any hits, therefore no one was scoring. In about the sixth inning, I noticed the mound was getting slippery and that there was something wrong with it where I liked to push off. All of a sudden, I go to pitch and when my foot was suppose to go forward it went back and I slipped! Apparently I fell weird and many thought I busted my knee, but I actually busted my ankle- which still hurts to the day. At that moment my coach was furious because of the field conditions and many thought I would have been out for an ankle injury, but there was no way I was going to sit out because of that! So I continued to play and tough it out. We were also shocked to find that the umps didn't call the game, because they said they would if a pitcher slipped. Overall we lost the game 0-1. We lost on an error, thus we should have ended on a tie. It was still a good game and enjoyable to play- minus the ankle injury. The next morning we had to get up at 6:45am to get ready for our 9:00 game. Once we were up and dressed, we were told the tournament was canceled! Everyone wasn't very happy with the result because we spent a lot of money on this trip, for nothing. It was an interesting weekend, but it would have been nice to get more then two games in. No one can control the weather- unfortunately.
Thanks for reading!

How it all Started!

It would have been about 10-11 years ago when I decided to start softball. The only reason I started softball was because my best friend convinced me to play because her sisters all played and they loved it. My dad took me outside everyday to do some extra practicing and I really enjoyed it. My first team I was on was called the Starmies. A Starmie is a character from Pokemon (Pokemon trading cards were totally cool, back in the day). The first division is T-ball, where the players hit off a tee, rather then hitting off a pitcher. Even though there was no pitchers at the time, my dad still took me outside to help me with my pitching. Therefore, I got a good head start on my pitching. My inspiration for pitching at the time was a family friend. I saw her pitch once, and since that moment, I have wanted to be just like her. After T-ball and after 'house' ball , I tried out for the Mite Select team. The Mite Select team was a team made up of the best players in Richmond. Luckily, my best friend and I made the team and her dad was the coach. We ended up not winning the major tournament, but we did win the base race. People who made the Mite Select team had a really good chance to make the Richmond Islanders- the rep team. So I decided to try out and fortunately I made the team. For our first year of rep life, our team did extremely well. People commented that we were the best first year team they have seen in awhile. I have continued to play for the Islanders and still do to this day. There are many great stories behind this team, like placing in Provincials and Nationals! We have also traveled a lot, and have won countless tournaments in the states. I love playing for the Richmond Islanders and I will continue to play for this organization for as long as I can.

Softball vs Baseball

Jennie Finch is one of my favourite softball players ever to play. She plays for team USA and is the most recognized softball player out there. She is a pitcher, but can also play first base. She was chosen to conduct an experiment that will prove which sport is harder to play. Myth has it that baseball is the hardest sport to play because hitting a baseball is extremely difficult, but many forget that softball is out there too. This video show multiple tests that will indicate which is harder- to hit a softball or baseball. If you are interested to find out which is harder, I suggest you watch this video, and you may be surprised to find out the results.

The Fourth Kind-Abduction

I have recently watched a movie called The Fourth Kind. If you are into scary and suspenseful movies, I highly recommend this movie. Like The Blaire Witch Project and Paranormal Activity, this movie is like a documentary, but unlike the other movies, it contains real footage! This movie is mind altering and will make you question the existence of non-human intelligences (aliens). It isn't just a scary/thriller movie, it also has a story line that will make your heart sink. Which involves losing loved ones and even a little girl being abducted! I don't believe I have ever seen such a movie- it's one of the scariest I have seen yet! Like I said earlier, if you are into this genre of movies, make time to watch The Fourth Kind!

Hello Cyber World!

This is my very first blog and I couldn’t wait to get it started! I am writing this blog to talk about my interests and my softball life. Softball is my life –well that’s what it seems like. Softball is my main occupation and I love to play it. I have been playing it for many, many years and my father has always pushed me to be the best I could be. Softball has given me many opportunities to see the world. I have traveled all over Canada and even have been down to the States with softball. I plan to go as far as I can with it, in hopes to play professional one day. I have many stories about softball and other aspects in my life, so bare with me and feel free to keep up with my blog!
