3rd in Canada!

Last summer of 2009, my team Richmond Islanders qualified to attend the Softball Nationals. The Nationals were held in Oakville, Ontario. The first two days, all we did was tour around and visit the famous Niagra Falls. I have been to Ontario before, but I never get tired at looking at the beautiful waterfalls. The team decided to go into a haunted house as well, and I was forced to lead the way! Fortunately, the girls in the back got all the people jumping out at them-karma! After having a couple of days to get use the the time change, it was time to get serious. We were playing the best teams in Canada and we knew we had to step up our 'A' game. No one would have thought that the Richmond Islanders would have qualified for Nationals- as we had a rough year at the start. But we didn't let that get to our heads. We played really tough teams, but managed to have a record of 3-1 in the round robin, which put us in a good standing for the semi-finals. In order to be quaranteed a medal, we had to beat Ontario 1, the team favoured to win. The score remained 0-0 for a very long time, and I was pitching! I was so nervous, my knees were shaking on the mound. Luckily, my team was able to get some runs in and we were now ahead, but the other team had last bats! I struck out the first two batters, but the third batter got on base from an error. Now there is a runner on first with the best hitter coming up to bat. Now I could really feel the butterflies. We needed one more out and after that the worst we could do was 3rd! I did eventually strike the girl out and at that moment we were guarenteed a medal at Nationals! Our team was estatic, like we have won the whole tournament! After that game we went back to the hotel for some sleep and the next day we lost to Ontario 2, 3-2, therefore we didn't qualify to the finals. Even though we didn't make it to the finals, our team was very satisfied with the end result. Richmond Islanders are now ranked 3rd in Canada! Our teams great effort and dedication was why we got so far, and I hope we can do the same thing this season!
